While exhibiting at the Knit and Stitch Show in Dublin, I came across a lovely lady whose work I was rather enthralled with. Serena O'Neill's showcase had a delicately nostalgic ambience which transported me back to the war-torn days of the 1940s, when domestic American housewifes roles were reassessed as their patriotic duty thrust them into previously gender decided roles. We see sentimental yet ordinary photograph style illustrations of lipsticked ladies in their finery juxtaposed over war memorbelia and parachuting heros. Through Serena's delicate use of a buttermilk cream and pastel palette infused with a ruby lipstick red, her sensitive work depicts the flickering moments of normality and glamour which fight to co-exist in what was becomming a war only zone. Serena's beautiful work is for sale and you can see more of it here, likewise you can contact her by mail at serenaoneill(at)gmail.com
