Where do you work from?
I work from home, which is in Sydney.
Please describe your typical working day?
I’m not sure there is such a thing as a ‘typical’ working day. But lately my day usually starts with checking my emails, having breakfast, getting dressed and up to the post office and then finally getting down to work. I have a tendency to work best later in the day, so I don’t think I really get into it till late afternoon and then I’ll stay up late working.
Where do you take your inspiration from?
Many different places. I am inspired by the world around me, photography, and vintage things. I have a bit of an obsession with collecting old vintage things. I’m a bit nostalgic and like to look to the past for inspiration.
What are your favourite etsy shops?
That’s a hard one as I have so so many favourites. Current favs are Jackie Boss, Brett is a girl and Julia Pott.
Who are your favourite illustrators?
I really like the work of Julia Pott, Kareena Zerefos, Sarah Palisi and Kelly Thompson, amongst many more.
What is your favourite thing about being a creative person? And the worst? if there is one!
Being creative is fun, you look at things in a different way, I guess you see the inspiration in life that other may miss.
The downside to being creative is probably that it is such a competive industry to be in and so it takes a lot of hard work to get noticed.
How do you spend your weekends?
I like to head to the local markets and cafes.
There are some great local markets where I live, where you can discover vintage treasures and get nice fresh produce and yummy breads.
Do you have any favourite blogs you might to introduce us to?
I have a mega long list of blogs I follow, but these are some of my top favourites; Fine little day , Daydream Lily, Not common People, The unicorn diaries and Recordis Photography.
Super dainty artworks I love the last cupcake one...would look amazing hung in my kitchen with some freshly baked muffins..would inspire me to actually bake!! So kitsch and pretty.
ReplyDeleteSo true as to the creative industry...i am a strong believer in try try try AND try again..if you work hard and always do your best the reward has to be there in the end. I am still hoping!!
Her work is so lovely, and has a fun burst of humour as well. I especially love the one of the owl perched on the tea cup.
ReplyDeleteI love all her work, so hard to choose a favorite, though I do love work no# 4, the girl & the bunny. I like the hints of green used in it also.
ReplyDeleteOoh great interview! My favourite is Bird cake, hands down. Little bird on a pile of cupcakes! Love it!
ReplyDeleteMy favourites are the tea cups piled up and the final one of the cupcakes, it makes my mouth water! I am a creative person too so can completely empathise with this artist in her comment about the industry being very competitive. I guess going unoticed is the artist's burden... the longer you carry it, the stronger you get :)
ReplyDeletetabitha's work is great - i love the caged bird print.
