RIVER ISLAND AUTUMN WINTER 2011

It seems vintage is here to stay! Autumn/Winter 2011 trends illustrate vintage detailing, seventies colour palettes and nostalgic silhouettes as the key notes of the season. Having recently had a sneak preview in the River Island Dublin headquarters, their Autumn/ Winter collection left me wanting to rush Summer out of the way so I could slip into the cosy autumnal trends faster! SO, for those of you who aren't glued to trend prediction sites and fashion forward magazines like myself, here are the key trends you will be rocking this Autumn...

 Keep yourself snug as a bug in Ikat, native inspired blanket knits and chunky cable knit sweaters and cardigans. Soft sandy tones in biscuit, white and camel prevail as your staple pieces, while pops of golden mustard, emerald green and raspberry red will brighten up the darkening days.

 Texture is key. mix 'n' match your sleek leather with shaggy furs (faux fur is huge next season). Billowing moussaline silks will be paired with tailored wool and denim pieces. Combine transparent silks with opaque pieces for sophisticated evening looks.

 The Seventies may have been 40 years ago but not judging by these trends! Its all about the detailing. Think pussy bow blouses and dresses, fitted waists drawn in with skinny metallic belts, full flared midi skirts, bohemian leather tassels and, when it comes to accessories, hang onto those trilbys and fedoras....they aren't going anywhere!

When the sun sets and the town beckons, think Studio 54 meets Parisian Chic. Concentrate on one favourite body part. If it's legs then slip into a romantic maxi chiffon gown with a thigh high front slit. If its shoulders and arms think little black dress with a feather trim on the bodice. Expect to see plenty of Twiggy style shift mini dresses, long sleeved jumpsuits and tailored boyfriend pieces like blazers and tuxedo jackets... time to get yourselves a very small boyfriend ladies ;)
