On my last trip to New York I managed to finally visit the Brooklyn flea market. It was a huge surprise to spot a favourite Etsy artist of mine exhibiting at it. She Hit Pause Studio's photographs are large format polaroid transfers. Polaroids are taken, the film is pulled apart and then the negatives are rubbed onto water color paper. All of the girls in his work are friends and shot as he learns to surf while travelling in Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru and the Dominican Republic... Not a bad way to spend your days! My favourite is numero uno, how about you?

It seems vintage is here to stay! Autumn/Winter 2011 trends illustrate vintage detailing, seventies colour palettes and nostalgic silhouettes as the key notes of the season. Having recently had a sneak preview in the River Island Dublin headquarters, their Autumn/ Winter collection left me wanting to rush Summer out of the way so I could slip into the cosy autumnal trends faster! SO, for those of you who aren't glued to trend prediction sites and fashion forward magazines like myself, here are the key trends you will be rocking this Autumn...

Keep yourself snug as a bug in Ikat, native inspired blanket knits and chunky cable knit sweaters and cardigans. Soft sandy tones in biscuit, white and camel prevail as your staple pieces, while pops of golden mustard, emerald green and raspberry red will brighten up the darkening days.

Texture is key. mix 'n' match your sleek leather with shaggy furs (faux fur is huge next season). Billowing moussaline silks will be paired with tailored wool and denim pieces. Combine transparent silks with opaque pieces for sophisticated evening looks.

The Seventies may have been 40 years ago but not judging by these trends! Its all about the detailing. Think pussy bow blouses and dresses, fitted waists drawn in with skinny metallic belts, full flared midi skirts, bohemian leather tassels and, when it comes to accessories, hang onto those trilbys and fedoras....they aren't going anywhere!

When the sun sets and the town beckons, think Studio 54 meets Parisian Chic. Concentrate on one favourite body part. If it's legs then slip into a romantic maxi chiffon gown with a thigh high front slit. If its shoulders and arms think little black dress with a feather trim on the bodice. Expect to see plenty of Twiggy style shift mini dresses, long sleeved jumpsuits and tailored boyfriend pieces like blazers and tuxedo jackets... time to get yourselves a very small boyfriend ladies ;)

A lot of exciting things have been developing with Dandelion Daydreamer Vintage. I've been having so much fun exploring new cities on shopping trips, exhibiting at vintage sales and meeting so many wonderful new people. One lady who I couldn't have been luckier to meet is Gosia Tuznik, a hugely talented photographer based in Dublin. We decided to do a little vintage test shoot together, images below, and we enjoyed ourselves so much, we have planned a huge shoot when I return from my Paris shopping trip this weekend :) In the meantime check out Gosia's site, be warned though her delicate baby pics will leave you feeling rather broody!

I have been away on a lot of work shopping trips lately, and while metropolitan breaks leave me feeling inspired and motivated, images like these leave me longing for a Summer holiday adventure. You know the type, mornings spent lounging on the beach in a coconut scented sunny haze of sea and sand, afternoons idly floating by as you track glimmering fish through secret caves. Fruity icicles cool you down as you wander aimlessly trough the siesta emptied town streets, brightly painted rainbow facades and colourful religious memorabilia adorning every window, reminding you just how far from home you really are. Time to start planning...

I'm taking house proud to the next level. I am a month into decorating my new pad and girly shabby chic is an understatement! The landlords have given me free reign with my trusty tools and my ambitious paint bucket and brush... Dublin has been having the most beautiful weather the last few weeks, I'm almost afraid to mention it in case I jinx it! It's difficult not to be optimistic when the sun is beaming in through your lace curtains, casting floral shadows across your cozy cocoon of a bed. There's an energising feeling of change when Spring transends into Summer, and somehow even the most difficult of tasks seem achievable and the most painful of memories fade to something less poignant.

What a weekend! We are just back from a perfectly amazing weekend of vintage fun in Kilkenny. This year was the second year Absolute Style at Set took place and Kilkenny didn't know what hit it! There were vintage movie nights, vintage up-dos and make up demonstrations, yummy cocktails after a hard days selling, frosted cupcakes and dainty vintage chinaware and more vintage clothing and accessories than you could even imagine! Dandelion Daydreamer Vintage had a lot of happy shoppers over the weekend and we are thinking of rewarding ourselves with a minty green vintage bike as seen at the show! I'm still recovering from all the madness so will let these pictures tell the rest of the story :) x

I've had a hectic two weeks, a shopping trip to Paris, a trip to Berlin and a big move into my cozy new apartment. I'm knee deep in paint swatches and sandpaper but my head is swimming with all the pretty things I've been storing up to share with you. Before I can even get started on them, I was distracted by these lovely images by Tamgutlich, which reminds me that those carefree days are just around the river bend :)

I had to share these feel good images with you! I was a huge fan of the animated movie 'Up", well after the initial heartbreak subsided that is! The National Geographic have created a real-life version of the flying house from "Up". 300 lollipop hued helium filled balloons later, the light weight house was seen floating high in the sky over Los Angeles. Amazing! x

Anybody who has been chez moi knows about my vintage tea cup obsession! I serve afternoon tea in them, plant flowers in them, burn candles in them and basically collect dust on them! I stumbled across an Irish business who will rent you their stunning chinaware for your special occasion. Imagine a high tea girly party, or on your wedding day for tea and cake time! Such a wonderful idea, but with their incredibly ornate collection dating back as far as 1890, my only concern would be that I wouldn't be able to give them back! NIKE TRAINING CLUB!

A new year, a new and me so the motto goes! Living back in Ireland for the Winter, after 2 years in the land of the boulangerie, has done wonders for my figure! The skinny jeans are slipping back on now that baguettes and pain au chocs are no longer my breakfast staple foods! The somewhat healthier new me was delighted to have recently been invited to the Nike Training Club press day workout in Dublin. Well, until I woke up the morning after that was.... 30 minutes of a Nike workout = 3 days of recovery!

The Nike Training Club is a unique sport inspired training programme designed specifically for women which concentrates on getting you lean, toned and strong. The app can be downloaded to your iPhone or iPod Touch meaning you can literally workout anywhere.

You can start off small and build up a 15 min workout to a killer 45 min session. As you progress with each session you gain rewards, allowing you to unlock the exclusive workouts of the Nike Woman athletes like the long and lean Maria Sharapova. I was very flattered to receive a newsletter from the Textile Workshop Dublin who cited me as their favourite blog this month :) I am a huge fan of their workshops and delighted with Dandelion's little mention! For my Irish ladies living in the Dublin locality, if you are a creative little bee and looking for something to occupy you on these dreary winter days then I have a little treat for you.

Textile Workshop Dublin offers weekend and evening tutorial classes where you can book your own slice of crafty delight. I personally love their latest addition... Mrs. Draper's Apron, where your Saturday class supplies you with the materials and skills necessary to create your very own Mad Men inspired hostess apron. Only problem is you'll probably spend a fortune throwing dinner parties to show it off to your envious friends afterwards! The next apron workshop is on February the 19th so get your place booked now! x

DANDELION DAYDREAMER'S GIRLY GUIDE TO KILKENNY!

What a weekend! We did our first touring Dandelion Daydreamer Vintage party and what a party it was! So many ladies and so many dresses! The lovely host had sent out a vintage dress note on the invite and the guests certainly didn't let her down! After a few hours, and countless bottles of wine later, our vintage van was a lot lighter for the journey home! We stopped off in Kilkenny on the way back the next day, and what was supposed to be a 2 hour pitt stop turned into a 6 hour shopping spree! It had been almost 4 years since I had last been to Kilkenny and I had no idea what I was missing. So ladies, in light of our amazing day of fun there, this post is dedicated to my girly guide to Kilkenny. Happy reading! x

It is impossible to visit Kilkenny and walk by Bridie's without a second glance! Country kitsh gives a playful touch to this traditionally robust pub/cafe/shop. We were enticed inside by the window display of tasty cakes and kicked our morning off with a strong dose of coffee. The shelves are adorned with jar after jar of the old fashioned sweets your grandad used to buy you and the pub at the back whispers of fun times gone by.

Our next port of call was Butterslip on Rose Inn Street. This jewellery heaven is the kind of shop that eludes you into buying the accessories before the dress! 1 x Glitzy earrings and 1 x bling necklace later and I was a very happy shopper. My sister didn't get away so easily and bought any and every owl cushion or birdie interior treat available :)

Next up was Yesterdays. I have to warn you, before you go in to this enchanted treasure trove of interior delights, lock away your credit card and try to remember the next pay day is a month away! Although that said, they are having their winter sale and there were bargains aplenty :) Browse through French style mirrors, dainty crystal door-knobs, dressing screens and glistening glassware while Edith Piaf sets the mood. We fell head over heels in love with this ambient boutique and will definitely be back for more very very soon!

By this stage lunch bells will be ringing and its time to treat your tums to a girly lunch in Cafe Mocha. Situated on High Street, this stunning setting is a must for a well-deserved break! Choose from a very appetising selection of fish cakes with a tangy lime and chilli dressing to moreish cottage pie with chunky Mocha chips. Desert is a must, the coffee cake had my name all over it :)

Lunch is over and now it's time to visit Smoking Lily. The lovely Shona has a great eye and has amassed a serious selection of vintage and second-hand pieces to set your pulse racing. Her lofty studio boutique is situated in the Market Slip, beside the sewing shop. The bright red door will lead you there and you won't be disappointed. Looking at my pics again I wish I'd tried to buy/steal/beg for that silver horsie :)

Last, but certainly not least, we have Shutterbug. What originally started off as a photography studio, now has a wonderfully styled second hand shop fronting the showroom. Hand-selected pieces by the stylish Blanaid hang proudly from salvaged white washed wooden doors while their impressive photography portraits adorn the walls. While there, we met the stunning Ashling, who kindly gave us the studio tour. I wish I'd taken a picture of their make-up room, it was every girls dream!

All that hard work over, and it's now time to reward yourself with a nice drink in one of the many many many local pubs! If any Kilkenny locals or regulars have any top tips for Kilkenny please let me know for our next visit :) x

Where do you work from?
I knit and make my pieces at my home in Surrey, England.

Where do you take your inspiration from?
Almost every item in my current collection is the product of numerous factors; my constant learning of new and interesting knit techniques, the discovery of beautiful and natural yarns, my love of the outdoors and ultimately my love of luxury, extravagance and opulence.

What are you wearing?
American Apparel navy jersey skirt, standard black tights, white tee and mustard cable-knit woollen cardigan that I inherited from my grandma.

Who are your favourite designers and etsy shops?
The list is endless, but the dream team is Acne, Commes des Garcon, Maison Martin Margiela, Burberry and Chanel. All of which are wildly beyond my budget, but you can't help who you love! As for fave Etsy spots, I love Julia Pott Illustration. She's a British artist with a great sense of humour and a lovely drawing style.

Please describe your typical working day?
Get up early, shower, make a special smoothie that my Danish friend told me about (it's got spinach in), check emails/orders, start knitting. When I knit I like to listen to BBC Radio 4, and I'm also trying to watch films that I've never seen before so I've signed up to one of those internet dvd mail order things. Usually don't finish until late, then I get into bed to watch some sort of rubbish on tv, and fall asleep.

PARIS... DANDELION DAYDREAMER STYLE :)

On the train journey up to Paris I read a contemporary art magazine with an article that contained the famous quote "Paris was Yesterday". This becomes apparent as soon as you emerge from the bustling train station. Decadently grand architecture towers over you while cozy ambient shop fronts and cafes soothe you at ground level. There is an ever prevalent sense of tradition and history in Paris, wandering around the cobbled streets is not unlike being in an outdoor museum. To me, Paris is an old soul with a young beating heart. I am often breezing through on work trips shopping for my vintage store, this time however I limited my shopping days to 3 and the other 2 to The Boyfriend (generous of me I know!) I kept a note of my favourite eateries and districts to share with you so here goes!

When it comes to recommendations in Paris I have 2 wonderful words for you...The Marais! This area is my favourite little slice of Paris. Nestled in the heart of Paris, the Marais makes you feel as if you are wandering through a large town rather than the industrial capital of France. Ancient winding streets guide you past aromatic patisseries which will lighten your pockets but tighten your pants! You will step into antique shops which will break your heart to leave, that is the danger of le Rue St. Paul...you will not come away empty handed!

Locals will subtly scan you and your attire as they perch on their pews in street-side cafes and bustling brasseries. Feel free to scan them right back, we have a lot to learn from the Parisians and their seemingly effortless style. Les Temps des Cerises is a very typical Parisian restaurant, which we enjoyed on a particularly wet afternoon, as we snuggled up inside there watching the world scurry by. Eat like the French and take advantage of lunch menu specials where you can eat like a king and enjoy 3 courses for under €15.

If you tire of French cuisine Ran Cham, situated at the bottom of St.Paul, serves very authentic Thai cuisine that I am still dreaming about now. Make sure to try the banana and chocolate fritters...wow! I ate the most amazing Italian meal in Presto Fresco on Rue Montmarte (Sentier metro stop). The Boyfriend and I begrudgingly shared the creamiest buffallo mozarella starter we had ever tasted and this Italian dinery is now right up there on our list of Parisian favourites. If like me, a great vintage find sets your pulse racing, then you will love discovering all the vintage stores the Marais has to offer. Kiliwatch (Sentier metro again) was a personal favourite as they had a very discerning eye when sourcing their stock.

If you can afford to, you should try to rest your weary legs (the Louvre is no joke!) at the Caron de Beaumarchais hotel in the Marais. The pic below will tell you all you need to know! I could go on about my little love affair with Paris forever but I'll let my photos articulate my Parisian experience better than I ever could :)

It was this first image of the doeful little deer that drew me into Laura Walls Taylor's Etsy shop. Then I hung about to investigate for my Christmas shopping list. (Look away sisters!) With a sister who loves birds and a second who loves flowers, Laura's ceramic collection has possibilities for them both! Where do you work from?
My life is decentralized. In the country, I throw pots in a shed shared with old stained-glass lamps, gardening tools and a water heater. In the city, my casting and glazing are done in my basement studio. Most of my painting is pretty painstaking so it’s done wherever the light is best at the time.

Where do you take your inspiration from?
It’s a cliché, that inspiration can come from anywhere, but it’s true. I make what I like and that can echo our much-superior natural world mixed with a dose of sarcasm.

I see you are living in San Franny? I visited there for 2 weeks in May, it must be a pretty inspiring place for an artist to live?
San Francisco attracts all sorts, and definitely has an ephemeral element. The vibe stays the same, but everything changes around it, which is interesting to me. The best part though, is that it’s a little city with great restaurants and cute neighborhoods but nature is still really accessible.

Please share a local tip from your town for those travel bugs among us!
Avoid waterfront restaurants and other tourist traps. Don’t drive…walk…you can’t experience San Francisco in a car.

What are you wearing?
Right now? …Worn out, but comfy grey suede flats with patent leather buttons, my favorite Hudson jeans and a fuzzy alpaca sweater…not a very sexy answer.

What is your favourite thing about being a creative person?
I think everyone is creative. Some people just forget how to color outside the lines as they get older. I can’t imagine not making things…whether it’s out of clay or something else. I don’t use recipes either.

How do you spend your weekends?
I much prefer dirt over concrete and spend half my time in an amazing place where crickets and frogs take the place of busses and cars that fill my weekdays. Out in the foothills I throw pots, spend time watching birds and deer, play in the river and drink champagne.

What is your shops best selling item?
My porcelain rose stem swizzle sticks have gotten the most press, but popularity changes all the time and I stink at trying to predict. I often run out of things that I make in sets. Lots of things I make are one-offs and once they are gone, they’re gone.

I hope all you lovelies had a bon weekend? Despite the Basque Monsoon weekend, mine was wonderful. I spent a day rambelling around the romantic old town of Bayonne with The Boyfriend. He window shopped while I treated myself to my second pair of winter boots this week (guilty smile). "Aren't they exactly the same as the pair you bought in Paris?"... Um, no, they were a DARKER tan silly! Sunday was spent travelling to my favourite monthly market, I may as well have gone by boat... this rainy weather is reminding me of the one thing I don't miss about Ireland! I noticed Charmaine Olivia had added some new illustrations to her shop. I had blogged some of her lovely work before but I am loving this new silhouette style of hers and couldn't resist sharing her with you again... too gorgeous! Can you pick a favourite? INTRODUCTION TO IRISH TEXTILE DESIGNER SERENA O NEILL

While exhibiting at the Knit and Stitch Show in Dublin, I came across a lovely lady whose work I was rather enthralled with. Serena O'Neill's showcase had a delicately nostalgic ambience which transported me back to the war-torn days of the 1940s, when domestic American housewifes roles were reassessed as their patriotic duty thrust them into previously gender decided roles. We see sentimental yet ordinary photograph style illustrations of lipsticked ladies in their finery juxtaposed over war memorbelia and parachuting heros. Through Serena's delicate use of a buttermilk cream and pastel palette infused with a ruby lipstick red, her sensitive work depicts the flickering moments of normality and glamour which fight to co-exist in what was becomming a war only zone. ON THE ROAD... TO DUBLIN-BIARRITZ-PARIS-NICE-ANTIBES-CANNES

There is an embarrassing gap between my last post! I have been away in Dublin exhibiting my painted ladies at the Knit and Stitch Exhibition in Dublin. From there it was home to the South of France for a weekend to send off my piled up vintage orders, then up to Paris for some romantic time with The Boyfriend and some magical vintage sourcing that left me frantically buying extra suitcases and sneaking items into his! From Paris I went to Nice, Antibes and finally Cannes to support The Boyfriend's handsome twin compete in his first marathon. In between supporting the handsome twin and nibbling macaroons I sampled some local brocante markets. Quite pricey (vintage Chanel, Hermes and Lanvin to make your mouth water) but naturally I managed to find some more treats for Dandelion Daydreamer Vintage. Now I am home sweet home in the South West of France and looking forward to sharing all the sights and sounds of my trip with you in the upcoming posts :)

We just got a new* oven, the old one puffed out so much smoke when in use that baking became a distant memory. The Boyfriend has first dibs on it for his luscious carrot cake (um... not that I'm protesting!) so in the mean time I'm going to treat myself to a new hostess apron as a first step to becoming a domestic goddess. Anthropologie when are you opening in France?! I've narrowed the selection down to these 4 lovelies, and anyway, I never feel too guilty when I shop in dollars... it always ends up being cheaper than I hoped!

BONJOUR SUNDAY MARKETS!

My weekend was all geared up towards my eagerly anticipated Sunday, holy day of French markets! Some of the brocanteurs know me so well now they tip me off on the better markets to go to, yesterday's tip was the "Marches aux Puces" in Ahetze. All I can say is merci les brocanteurs! The market was an even mix of specialised antiques meets shabby chic flea market.

An elderly brocanteur bartered with a customer as her crisp white finely embroidered French linens danced in the breeze. Children rocked back and forth on antique carousel horses as their distracted mamams tried the vintage Hermes bags and Chanel scarves on for size.

The market rambled through the ambient winding streets of Ahetze. Egg-shell blue shutters framed sash windows dressed in antique lace, creating a perfect backdrop for the tea bone china and Victorian serving plates.

Pre-loved teddy bears and limb-less dolls lay desolate and forgotten as antique pocket watches ticked on regardless.

3 happy hours and 3 heaving bags laden later, I rewarded myself with a chocolait chaud and a platter of mini macaroons before the long drive home. All new vintage accessories will be listed in Dandelion Daydreamer Vintage this week :)

In case you hadn't noticed, the only bag to be seen out and about with this season is a satchel. Vintage or high-street, it doesn't matter as long as you get your mitts on one! Top Shop and Urban Outfitters are stocking some great leather versions at the moment, or if you fanny a satchel with an edge, check out French & English, a London based designer who specialises in hand-made leather goods. I'm loving the catalogue pictures from Alexandra Grecco's Fall 2010 collection. Alexandra is inspired by vintage lingerie, the soft focus colour tones of Polaroid photography and pin-up girl with their sensuous curves. On her collection Alexandra says; "I always want to wear my underwear outside, but realizing that desire is, unfortunately, not considered civilized and would cause ailments for the majority of the elderly, I took my inspiration from boudoir-wear and infused it with daytime practicality for my first collection!" A WEEKS WORTH OF ADVENTURES IN NEW YORK CITY!

Well I am home sweet home from a rather amazing trip to New York. It was my first trip there in over 6 years and I had almost forgotten how much I love that city. New York is a fashionistas heaven, give me N.Y over Paris anyday! We stayed in the East Village and couldn't have chosen a better location. Surrounded by ambient bars, speciality restaurants, cupcake cafes and more vintage clothing stores than even I could visit.... I was in heaven! Sitting outside our next door cafe, sipping iced coffees and people watching as herds of beautiful creatures swished by en route to casting calls, fashion shows or their 9-5 day jobs which sustain their N.Y lifestyle until fate steps in. I was there to vintage shop and 4 heaving suitcases later it seems shop I did! The Village has tonnes of niche vintage boutiques, ranging from the prim and pristine attire of the 1950s to the free-spirit style of the 1970s. One stop over from The Village on the L line is Williamsburg, the first stop being Bedford, a portal to one of my favourite slices of the Big Apple. This suburbian town ticks along to a slower beat than her Manhattan sister. Here crafty boutiques, designer pop up shops, vintage warehouses, organic cafes and enchanting galleries manage to distract you from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan for as long as your wallet will allow! Back a week, and I have already began saving for my next trip, except next time around I may not click return ticket...

Autumn is upon us and even thought the sun is still shining down on us here in France the trees have started to drop their pine needles, acorns are scattered all across the forest and the squirrels are working on over-drive! In Ireland the Summer season can be so rainy and miserable that summer trends don't get the look in they deserve, Autumn fashion is a lot better suited to the Irish Climate, i.e we might actually get to wear our new purchases once or twice! I'm away in New York for a weeks marathon of shopping and I have been a very good girl squirreling away my dollars for the trip. Although, some of my book-marked links make me wanna blow it all away into a poof of wool and lame!

After a wonderful week back in Dublin I am home sweet home to sunny South France! I was back in Dublin for the beautiful wedding of my dear friends Stephen and Kate, and what a wedding it was! Apart from running late last minute into the WRONG wedding, the whole day was unforgettably perfect! The next morning The Boyfriend and I bundled our weary selves into the car and drove up to the West Coast of Donegal for a weekend of long beach walks, a crackling fire and comfort food. Now back in France I'm a little bit heavier but a whole lot happier having seen all my fabulous friends :) A lot of brides to be often ask me about sourcing vintage or vintage inspired wedding dresses. I love Autumn, don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing summer away yet but Autumn definitely has her perks. I love hearing the crunch of crispy auburn leaves underfoot, the return of the trusty opaques and boots, my poor booted friends who were relegated to the bottom of the wardrobe during a sizzling French summer. Oh how I have missed you boots! In fact the only thing I dislike about Autumn is that it leads to Winter :( Here are a few of my favourite Autumn related finds on Etsy.

Casey Casey Casey how I love thy paintings! I have the biggest artist crush on Casey O'Connell. I adore her magically romantic and fairytale style, her bold use of vintage inspired patterns and colour combinations, and the recurring theme of love sweet love throughout her work. I check back in on Casey's site from time to time and am always blissfully surprised at how industrious she has been in the meantime... always a fresh collection even more enchanting than the last. My favourite is still the girl in the red hat on her boyfriends back ... j'adore :)

COZY COTTAGE FOR ONE PLEASE!

This week has been insanely hot, especially with this spontaneous new fringe of mine. The hairdresser insisted that curly Sues were not destined to have Sienna inspired fringes.... But I've always been stubborn! Oh well, 6 months later and I shall be able to see out of my eyes again! This weekend saw the temperate rise all the way up to 40 degrees, and I for one, am thankful our mini heat-wave has come to a sizzling end. Now I long to go somewhere with tall, swaying reeds, cool, green grass refreshing my bare feet and a cozy little cottage where an extra blanket is needed in the evenings as I sip hot chocolate. Think I have found the dream....
